FGS Launches an Amazon Alexa Skill for Members

This week, the Florida Gastroenterologic Society launched it’s Amazon Alexa custom skills to help deliver content to their members. Beginning February 1, 2019, Alexa can be asked to provide details about upcoming FGS meetings using phrases such as:

  • “Alexa, when is the florida gastro spring meeting?
  • “Alexa, when is the florida gastro annual meeting?”
  • “Alexa, is the florida gastro spring meeting sold out?”

Members can now listen to weekly updates using Alexa’s Flash Briefing. Follow these instructions to get your device linked up.

When asked about the decision to develop on Amazon’s Alexa platform, Justin Bouck, FGS Executive Director had this to say:

“We understand that our members lead very busy lives, and sometimes checking in on a website or digging through emails to find our messages can prove to be challenging. It is our goal to provide our members with quick answers delivered at their convenience by using custom-build skills with Amazon’s Alexa.”

This is the first step taken by the FGS to use voice-activated technology to deliver content to its members, and the future capabilities are promising. Similar development for the Google Home is currently under review.
