The FGS strives to support and recognize those gastroenterologists in the state of Florida who exemplify significant achievements. Additionally, the Florida Gastroenterologic Society has a mission to encourage the next generation of GI physicians. Therefore, FGS offers various awards and scholarships to Florida gastroenterologists annually who have demonstrated outstanding skills and abilities.
The Florida Gastroenterologic Society’s Distinguished Service Award honors a Florida Gastroenterologist whose accomplishments (clinical, academic, educational, socioeconomic and humanitarian) made a significant contribution to Gastroenterology within the state. Dr. Johnson and his wife, Janice, understood long ago that the success and integrity of the GI profession is rooted in the next generation. The FGS is deeply grateful for Dr. Johnson and Janice’s generosity and concern for the future of gastroenterology in Florida. Therefore the James H. Johnson Scholarship Award is given each year, for the next twenty years, to one Fellow-in-Training at one of Florida’s GI Training Facilities. The recipient will receive a check for no less than $2,000.00 to assist him or her with their expenses. To review the list of previous recipients click here.
